Solar ‘powers’ Culverhouse Community Garden

In 2012, we installed solar to power the irrigation system at the Culverhouse Community Garden. This year, we upgraded the system to provide 1.6kW through four solar panels and 9.2kWh of battery storage (Dakota batteries). With this system, the garden enjoys water pressure day and night. The gardeners are reported to be very happy with the water delivery system and the cistern is consistently full.
The Culverhouse Community Garden is an organization of committed local residents who want to work as a gardening community to grow organic produce for their own health and the health of their families. The garden is a model for community gardening, and has a wonderful group of volunteers and members who grow all kinds of delicious and healthy fruits and vegetables. Well and pressure pumps at the garden run completely on solar power. The former batteries were 12 years old and no longer provided the “juice” the garden needed. The team at Brilliant Harvest recommended Dakota batteries, which are maintenance-free, efficient, and promise a long lifespan.
So far, the upgraded system has provided sufficient water for all of the gardeners’ needs. Hear from the folks at the garden about their new water delivery system.
We are so happy to be a part of the wonderful success at the Culverhouse Community Garden, one of the best in the country!
